Karavasta Lagoon is the largest lagoon in Albania and one of the largest in the Mediterranean Sea, spanning an area of 42 km2 Karavasta is part of the Divjakë Karavasta National Park and is separated from the Adriatic Sea by a large strip of sand. Karavasta hosts many pine trees and small sandy islands. It is renowned for hosting the Dalmatian pelican; 6.4% of Europe’s population of the Dalmatian pelican is found in Karavasta The area has been recognized as a wetland of international importance by designation under the Ramsar Convention. The lagoon has been identified as an Important Bird Area by BirdLife International because it supports significant numbers of the populations of various bird species.
We will also delve into how its surrounding landscape was formed and observe its beautiful nature close at hand accompanied by a specialist of the Park. This day trip will give you more information about the flora and fauna of the area at the same time it allows you to observe the wildlife with our specialists. Our day will start with an introduction of the area from the specialists of the Parks in the Rangers center – One of the rangers is going to be with us all day and will explain to you more about the ecosystem and the importance of Karavasta Lagoon
After the introduction, we will go on top of the Karavasta Tower from where we can see all the lagoon and our instructor will show you the places we will go with our Kayaking
A short 4×4 Drive through the spectacular Lagoon to the starting point Beginners can have a go, guided by experts. Once you are more confident, create your own adventure exploring the lagoon
Take a 2 or 3 h kayaking tour around the lagoon and enjoy the view of the forest. Once we will be closed to Pelican Island the Ornithologist will help you to have the perfect bird watching
